YAY! The diet is off! Well at least until June… So what was the first thing I made? Beer bread. Why? Because it is so simple and so easy. You get all the yeasty flavor with out having to wait for the bread to rise. Making beer bread is one of the simplest and most rewarding ways to enjoy bread. I love it! Another great thing about beer bread is that you can make so many different variations of it, the possibilities are endless! I made my beer bread a little sweet. But I had a hard time deciding between a sweet bread or a savory bread. I added in honey and sugar to my beer bread recipe which gave it a nice contrast from the salty butter I get to pour on top just before baking! Next time, I may try adding in some herbs and cheese!
Making beer bread is a one bowl wonder. Nothing adds to a meal then fresh, hot bread right out of the oven. I followed the recipe from Give Me Some Oven’s Honey Beer Bread, but made some slight adjustments. Instead of adding in 2tbsp of sugar, I added in 4. And at the very end she adds in 4 tbsp of melted butter, with a bit of a wink that it is ok to use a whole stick, so that’s what I did.
This recipe is great. It is not too sweet or too yeasty. I used a summer beer for my bread, but you can always add in your favorite beer. I think it would be fun to add in a very fruity beer like a blackberry wheat or cherry flavored beer and see if the bread picks up on those subtle fruit flavors. Either way you make it, it always turns out delicious! Try making this for your next dinner, and I promise you wont have any left the next day.
